Compress image

Make a picture small enough for a form or an email.

What this does

Each picture keeps its format and is compressed again, either at the quality you set or to fit under a size you type in.

What it can’t do

Undo compression. Keep the original if you may need the full quality later.

A worked example

A visa form allows photos up to 240 KB. With the target set to 240 KB, a 3.1 MB phone photo comes out at 236 KB with its full dimensions.

Questions

How small can it get?
A phone photo usually drops to a fifth of its size with no visible change. Type a target size and the tool gets as close as it can.
Why didn't my PNG shrink?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, so there is little to save. Convert it to JPG or WebP for a large reduction.
Will the picture change size in pixels?
Only if the target size cannot be reached any other way. The tool tells you when it had to.

Your file stays on this device

The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
