What this does
Paste one link, or a block of text with several. Tracking parameters are removed from each, and the rest of your text is left exactly as you wrote it.
What it can’t do
Follow a shortened link to see where it goes. That would mean contacting the shortener, and this tool contacts nothing.
A worked example
A link copied from a newsletter is 240 characters long. Cleaned, it is 48, opens the same article, and no longer tells the publisher which subscriber shared it.
Questions
- What are tracking parameters?
- Extra pieces added to the end of a link, such as utm_source or fbclid. They do not change the page you get. They tell the site, and sometimes the company that placed the link, where and when you clicked.
- Will the cleaned link still work?
- Yes. Only parameters known to be for tracking are removed. Anything the page needs, such as a product number or a search term, is kept.
- What does "unwrapped a redirect" mean?
- Some links go to a forwarding service first, with the real address tucked inside. The tool takes the real address out, so the forwarding service is never contacted.
Your file stays on this device
The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
