What this does
Turns the picture right, left or upside down by changing the display setting in the file. Location, device details and dates are removed at the same time.
What it can’t do
Turn by a small angle to level a horizon, or flip a mirrored picture.
A worked example
A phone was turned just after recording started, so a three-minute clip plays on its side. One click, and it is upright, at full quality.
Questions
- How can it be instant?
- A video file contains a small note that tells players which way is up. Only that note is changed. The video itself is not touched.
- Does it work on a very large file?
- Yes. The size does not matter, because the video data is never read.
- The video still looks sideways in one program. Why?
- A few old players ignore the note. Current phones, browsers, VLC and QuickTime all respect it.
Your file stays on this device
The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
