Reshape FilePrivacy

Extract audio from video

Save the sound of a video as its own file, with no quality loss.

What this does

Reads the video, takes the sound track and writes it to a new file, without the video’s location and device details.

What it can’t do

Separate voices from music, or handle very large files: about 1.5 GB is the limit in a browser tab.

A worked example

A lecture recorded as a video is wanted as audio for the commute. The 900 MB video gives a 55 MB M4A in a few seconds.

Questions

Why is there no quality loss?
The sound is copied out of the video exactly as it is stored. It is not decoded and compressed again.
Why did I get an M4A and not an MP3?
The file type follows the format of the sound inside the video, which is usually AAC and so becomes an M4A. Use Convert audio if you need an MP3.
Is the video changed?
No. You get a new sound file; your video is untouched.

Your file stays on this device

The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
