What this does
Draws each page of the PDF and saves it as a PNG, numbered in order and offered together as a ZIP. The pictures carry no metadata.
What it can’t do
Keep text selectable. If you need the words rather than a picture of them, extract the text instead.
A worked example
A diagram on page 7 of a specification is needed in a slide. Page 7 is saved as a 300 dpi PNG and the diagram stays sharp when the slide is projected.
Questions
- Why PNG rather than JPG?
- PNG stores every pixel exactly, so text, lines and diagrams stay perfectly sharp. The files are larger than JPG, which matters little for a few pages.
- Is the background transparent?
- No. Pages are drawn on white, as a PDF reader would show them.
- How large are the files?
- An A4 page of text at 150 dpi is usually 100 to 300 KB as a PNG. At 300 dpi, expect three to four times that.
Your file stays on this device
The tool above runs in a sealed frame that cannot send your file anywhere. It works with airplane mode on, and the counter above it stays at 0. Here is how you can check that yourself.
